We've always admired Bill Shelley's wet way with the watercolor medium. In this latest piece, "Bay Hill Road", Bill presents an intriguing, extreme perspective and pushes the landscape close to abstraction by flattening the essential shapes.
Sonoma County – Bay Hill Road
30" x 22", watercolor
As we move into the wet months of the year, we turn to Bill Shelley to appreciate what the water does to the landscape. Here we present two of his newest pieces painted on the spot at Northern California waterways -the Laguna de Santa Rosa and the Tomales Bay estuary near Point Reyes. Bill's masterful wet-on-wet technique and color choices perfectly capture late fall in Northern California.

Morning Fog – Santa Rosa Laguna
9" x 9", watercolor, by Bill Shelley
“Located an hour north of San Francisco, the Santa Rosa Laguna, is an expanse of marsh-ways punctuated by stands of oak. A curtain of marine fog can descend or lift at a moment’s notice, concealing or revealing layers of trees, waterways and hills. “Morning Fog” was painted just as the fog was lifting off of the Laguna.” Bill Shelley

Crouching Figure
11" x 15", ink, by Bill Shelley
"I love working with the fluid and simple statements that brush and ink can create. The medium really works well to present a fresh presentation of the figure." Bill Shelley.
Yosemite Falls (Autumn)

Bodega Rocks
16" x 22", watercolor, by Bill Shelley
Bill Shelley is an avid proponent of the "plein air" tradition, creating most of his paintings outdoors while taking in the scenery of Yosemite, the Northern California coast, or even on occasion, the Italian countryside. Bodega Rocks is a good example of his mastery of the watercolor medium. Bill's art is currently represented by Bodega Landmark Studio.
